I think it is time we all took accountability for why this industry is going
down the toilet.
We can all sit down over a drink and reminisce about all those good old peeler
bars that are now gone, but the reality is that those days are gone, too.
I was talking to a dancer (name withheld) the other day about one of my pet
peeves - being pestered for private dances. After a heated short conversation,
she said "if you don't like it, go somewhere else!". And you know what, maybe I
will, but how many others have already gotten pissed off and, for the same
reason, gone to sports bars, pubs or God knows where else already? I just want
to have my drink and watch a few shows. If I want a private dance, I'll ask for
it. If I want to be harassed every 5 minutes, I'll go to a beach in Mexico, or a
street in Calcutta!
And that brings me to my second point. The lifeline of support for dancers in BC
over the past decades have been blue collar working shmucks like me, who came
into their regular peeler bar rain or shine every day after work (sometimes
during work if we can bolt!).
We are not the suits that you will find at Brandi's dropping $400 to $800 a pop
and writing it off on their expense accounts.
The same night I was told to go somewhere else, another (also unnamed) dancer
was on stage, when some poor working stiff like me tried to show his appreciation
by tipping her. Unfortunately, he didn't have much, so he put a loonie and a
toonie on the stage. Well, this dancer was so pissed off she threw the coins at
him!!!! (Hmmmmm....if an American put three US one dollar bills on the stage
would she have reacted that way??)>
Anyway, words were exchanged, she dumped his beer on him, more words, thsn she
threw his empty glass at him, more words, he threw the glass back at her, long
story....he was chased out into the parking lot and shit kicked.
Think he is going to come back? I don't think so. It was pretty sickening. If I
didn't consider it an isolated incident, I might find something better to do
with my time also.
I guess what I am saying, ladies, is, you have a good product. You need to
market it and promote it better rather than acting like it is a penance you have
to put up with.
For those of you who feel that way.......PLEEEEEASE, find something else to do,
don't ruin it for the vast majority of dancers who put on a great show, and have
fun doing it.
Hoping I'm not going to have to change my lifestyle.
SSSSSSSSnake.

Snake - you resort to slanderous and disrespectful remarks - just proves you ARE
socially inept (and broke and cheap as you said yourself). If you hate being
asked for a private dance, then wear a shirt that says you do not want a dance
so it is obvious before anyone bothers to speak to you. What about if someone
asks you if you want another drink? They want your money. Oh yeah, and you
better not watch TV because every commercial they are asking for your money too.
You'd better just live alone and in the dark, because every day, you are
guaranteed to get asked for money in some way.
You say that you are out supporting the dancers, but yet you take every
opportunity to slander and disrespect the girls for offering their own opinion
or for trying to make a living. How is THAT support? You are not making any
friends here. Socially adept people make friends easily. No wonder people are
only after your money, you don't seem to have much else to offer anyone.
Being broke and cheap does not AUTOMATICALLY make you socially inept, IT'S A
CHOICE!!! If you were socially adept, you would be able to conduct yourself in
an appropriate manner, regardless of the situation, because you'd be intelligent
enough to adapt, whether you approve or not. It's about having some class as
well. Politely decline when asked and maybe add some polite comment about how
private dancers are not your thing, that you don't agree with them. Why resort
to name calling and slander? Address the issue while showing some respect, for
others and for yourself Snake. Think about it, it's pretty obvious to socially
adept people.
(o)(o)Ps!
Wasn't me...wink wink!

This is from some anarchists web site on stripping; on any account a stumbled on
this and I understand this fellows position to some extent; it is annoying to be
bothered about a lap dance specifically and even now any because I was tricked
once, expecting a air dance and ended up being frotaged, now despite the fact
the word sounds nice the act isn't nice and can be upsetting to someone like me,
just like the privacy violation involved in asking me weather or not I indulge
in some sort of debauchery when all I might be there for is to watch an act. I
presumes I am some sort of low life because I am there, and I see nothing lowly
about enjoying a show or a drink and do in a lap dance or frotage, and nerves do
enter in by the way. It ccan get bad, it's gotten so bad I understand they are
selling lap dances over the phone now in telemarketing firms.
Air dances and what other possible "private" dance there is (privacy issue
argued before) are a tough thing in some places like the Drake to turn down when
the women is being given a cut in pay just because she can't sell three dances,
this is not her fault as much as the scum bags who created the rule; so yeah, in
genenal, things stink a little in Vancouver, this is likely why some ladies say
they prefer the island.

When trolls are ignored they step up their attacks, desperately
seeking the attention they crave. Their messages become more and more
foul, and they post ever more of them. Alternatively, they may protest
that their right to free speech is being curtailed — more on this
later.

The moderator of a message board may not be able to delete a troll's
messages right away, but their job is made much harder if they also
have to read numerous replies to trolls. They are also forced to
decide whether or not to delete posts from well-meaning folks which
have the unintended effect of encouraging the troll.

Some webmasters have to endure conscientious users telling them that
they are "acting like dictators" and should never delete a single
message. These people may be misinformed: they may have arrived at
their opinion about a troll based on the messages they see, never
realizing that the webmaster has already deleted his most horrific
material. Please remember that a troll does have an alternative if he
has something of value to say: there are services on the net that
provide messaging systems free of charge. So the troll can set up his
own message board, where he can make his own decisions about the kind
of content he will tolerate.

Just how much can we expect of a webmaster when it comes to preserving
the principles of free speech? Some trolls find sport in determining
what the breaking point is for a particular message board operator.
They might post a dozen messages, each of which contains 400 lines of
the letter "J". That is a form of expression, to be sure, but would
you consider it your duty to play host to such a person?

Perhaps the most difficult challenge for a webmaster is deciding
whether to take steps against a troll that a few people find
entertaining. Some trolls do have a creative spark and have chosen to
squander it on being disruptive. There is a certain perverse pleasure
in watching some of them. Ultimately, though, the webmaster has to
decide if the troll actually cares about putting on a good show for
the regular participants, or is simply playing to an audience of one —
himself

:-{P>When trolls are ignored they step up their attacks, desperately
:-{P>seeking the attention they crave. Their messages become more and more
:-{P>foul, and they post ever more of them. Alternatively, they may protest
:-{P>that their right to free speech is being curtailed — more on this
:-{P>later.
:-{P>
:-{P>The moderator of a message board may not be able to delete a troll's
:-{P>messages right away, but their job is made much harder if they also
:-{P>have to read numerous replies to trolls. They are also forced to
:-{P>decide whether or not to delete posts from well-meaning folks which
:-{P>have the unintended effect of encouraging the troll.
:-{P>
:-{P>Some webmasters have to endure conscientious users telling them that
:-{P>they are "acting like dictators" and should never delete a single
:-{P>message. These people may be misinformed: they may have arrived at
:-{P>their opinion about a troll based on the messages they see, never
:-{P>realizing that the webmaster has already deleted his most horrific
:-{P>material. Please remember that a troll does have an alternative if he
:-{P>has something of value to say: there are services on the net that
:-{P>provide messaging systems free of charge. So the troll can set up his
:-{P>own message board, where he can make his own decisions about the kind
:-{P>of content he will tolerate.
:-{P>
:-{P>Just how much can we expect of a webmaster when it comes to preserving
:-{P>the principles of free speech? Some trolls find sport in determining
:-{P>what the breaking point is for a particular message board operator.
:-{P>They might post a dozen messages, each of which contains 400 lines of
:-{P>the letter "J". That is a form of expression, to be sure, but would
:-{P>you consider it your duty to play host to such a person?
:-{P>
:-{P>Perhaps the most difficult challenge for a webmaster is deciding
:-{P>whether to take steps against a troll that a few people find
:-{P>entertaining. Some trolls do have a creative spark and have chosen to
:-{P>squander it on being disruptive. There is a certain perverse pleasure
:-{P>in watching some of them. Ultimately, though, the webmaster has to
:-{P>decide if the troll actually cares about putting on a good show for
:-{P>the regular participants, or is simply playing to an audience of one —
:-{P>himself
